August Lakeshore Weekend Retreat

Join us August 25th-27th, 2017 as we celebrate Sierra Club Michigan Chapter’s 50th anniversary. Enjoy a fun filled weekend at one of Michigan’s most biodiverse and unique destinations, historic Camp Miniwanca (Facebook page).

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan just north of Muskegon and nestled among 360 wooded acres with a mile of private Lake Michigan shoreline, Camp Miniwanca lets you choose your own adventure -tent camping, rustic log cabins among the pines or rooms a few steps away from the beach. Spend time outdoors walking the beach, swimming, bird watching or hiking. Attend workshops to learn about conservation issues and ways you can take action to improve the world around you. Stop by the crafting house and build a bird house or polish a Petoskey stone. Continue reading “August Lakeshore Weekend Retreat”

Native Plants

Brendan Nolan, the owner of Plants for Ecology (313 802-3411) will give a presentation on Michigan native plants; how to plant them and grow them in your yard and why you should. It does have something to do with keeping bees and butterflies alive and healthy, but effects on the local ecology go beyond that.

Sierra Club Endorsed Candidates for November 2016

Sierra Club is, and always will be a non-partisan grass-roots organization. That means our endorsements start from the bottom up. Our local group here in South East Michigan makes recommendations to the State Chapter which then move on to the National Organization. In making endorsement decisions we consider each candidates’ environmental record and platform, our history with and knowledge of the candidate and the candidate’s prospects of making positive impact on the environment of our State.

Below is a list of cendidates endorsed by the Sierra Club and appearing on ballots in the Southeast Michigan area. Comments are by Tom Turner, Chair of the political Committee for the Sierra Club’s Southeast Michigan Group:

President

Hillary Clinton – Secretary Clinton will be
the strong environmental champion that we need to lead our country, which is
why the Sierra Club is proud to endorse her and her vision for America. Continue reading “Sierra Club Endorsed Candidates for November 2016”

Hilton Los Cabos SEMG Fundraiser

The money from the winning bid goes straight into the SEMG treasury. We’ll use it to support our informational meetings, tabling at public events and printing handout materials.

Sierra Club Southeast Michigan Group (SEMG) has been given the gift of one week (Saturday April 23 – Sat. April 30, 2016; that’s during Easter break) in a one-bedroom time share suite in the Hilton Cabo Mexico Resort Hotel. The location is close to the very southern tip of Baja California. The condo is in the actual Hilton Hotel. It comes with maid service twice per day and a full kitchen. Occupants of the time share get access to all the ameneties of the resort – golf course, pool, spa, etc. And air travel to the area, while not included, is still reasonably priced.
