Climate Change – Peter Sinclair

This is the SEMG Sierra Club program for Thursday, April 6, 2017. The location is the Elks Lodge, 2401 E. 4th St., Royal Oak, MI. That’s at the corner of 4th St. & SB I-75 Service Drive, South of 11 Mile Rd.

The meeting is free and open to the public; any interested person can attend. The schedule is 6:30-7:00, Snacks and socializing; 7:00-7:10,  Announcements; and 7:10, Presentation.

Peter Sinclair is a Michigan resident who has paid a lot of attention to the science of climate change. He’s even created some of that science, spending the last several summers in Greenland, participating in a project to gather data about Greenland’s melting glaciers. He runs a website, “Climate Denial Crock of the Week,” which deals in some detail with the ignorance, illogic and absurdities of public figures who do not wish to believe in climate change.

Peter made an excellent multi-media presentation to us in October of 2013. We are due for an update on the subject, because climate disasters are intensifying and because many elected officials deny climate change while attempting to subsidize the fossil fuel economy. This presentation is about the latest scientific evidence, not so much about politics – but some political commentary is inevitable.

The presentation should last about an hour, after which Peter will field questions and comments from the audience.

Although this presentation was scheduled months before we knew about the Peoples’ Climate March in Washington, happening on April 29, we could not have planned for a better way to prepare for it. Sierra Club has scheduled a bus from Detroit to the march. You should get your tickets now, if you are going. Download the flyer that explains about cost and schedule.

On Saturday, April 8, we are holding a fundraiser for the SEMG at the Book Beat independent bookstore in Oak Park. It’s also another way to publicize and support the Peoples’ Climate March. You can also download the flyer for that event.

If you’re planning to buy an actual book printed on paper, then you might want to see if Book Beat has it or will order it. Then you can pick it up on the day of the fundraiser, and 20% of the purchase price will be given to the Sierra Club at no extra cost to you. You might even run into some old friends or new friends in the store.
